I’ve not seen as good a goal as that from an overhead kick – Gary Neville hails Alejandro Garnacho’s bicycle goal

Argentina’s youngster Alejandro Garnacho wrote his name in the history books when he netted a goal from an overhead kick against Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park.

Diogo Dalot had put in a cross and Garnacho scored an astonishing goal with a bicycle kick. Everything about that goal was just perfect. The jump, the athleticism, the connection, the accuracy, it just all happened in a blink of an eye.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has all the experience under his belt and he has seen some wonderful goals both as a player as well as an expert. Neville tipped Garnacho’s goal as the best he has ever seen in his life.

“I’ve not seen as good a goal as that from an overhead kick. That was the most beautiful overhead kick. The thing that struck me straight away was the fact he had to move away, he comes in and comes back out, moves his feet quickly and then throws himself in the air. Most players wouldn’t know how to do that: it’s gymnastic and acrobatic. It’s gymnastics – that’s not football,” said Neville on Sky Sports.

Neville reckons Garnacho’s goal is better than Wayne Rooney’s goal against Manchester City.

“It’s the best overhead kick I’ve ever seen. It’s not a bicycle kick, it’s an overhead kick. There are times you can get on your side, into that position. We can all do that. But to get into the position Garnacho did, I’ve never seen that before. I think Rooney’s is close to it but Garnacho’s is just better,” Neville added.

Manchester United will next take on Galatasaray in the Champions League on Wednesday.
