Novak Djokovic has hailed Carlos Alcaraz, stating he is one of the most impressive players he has faced in his life. Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon final and the latter admitted he hadn’t faced a player like the Spaniard in his glorious career.
However, Alcaraz lost to Daniil Medvedev in the US Open semifinals whereas Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam title by beating the Russian.
Alcaraz, 20, has won two Majors at the top level and he has shown the skills to go a long way in his promising career.
“Carlos is already at that level. It’s only a few years that he has been playing on the top level & he is already a two-time Grand Slam winner, number one in the world. It’s amazing to achieve so much so far, just at 19 or 20 years of age,” said Djokovic.
The Serbian backed the youngster to achieve great success in his career if he maintains his fitness and carries on in a similar fashion.
“He is the youngest number one in the world to finish number one at the end of the season. You can say he is a special guy, no doubt about it that he has an incredible career ahead of him if he stays healthy, if he continues to maintain this level of tennis,” Djokovic added.
Djokovic said Alcaraz has a great team and he will only get better with more experience at the top level.
“It’s not going to be guaranteed that you make the history of the sport because you have thousands of other players who would want to beat him. But he is one of the most impressive players I have faced in my life. No doubt, complete in every aspect & also a very nice guy, a great family, a great team so he is a perfect ambassador of our sport so far and if he is going to continue like this, he is going to carry tennis,” said Djokovic.
Both Djokovic and Alcaraz have qualified for the ATP finals.
