Legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels the gulf between Manchester United and Manchester City became bigger and bigger as the match went on. The Cityzens thrashed the Red Devils by 3-0 at Old Trafford to continue their domination in the derby.
Erling Haaland scored a double for the visitors whereas Phil Foden also scored in the 80th minute. The tourists had 61% of possession whereas they took 10 shots on target, as compared to United’s three.
Thus, it was complete domination from Pep Guardiola’s team while playing away.
Arsene Wenger said on beIN Sports, “Well deserved, I would say. The gulf between the two teams became bigger and bigger as the game went on. In the end, for such a big club, you felt sorry for Man United because there is no hope there for the team. I don’t see where they can improve, basically. This team has lost confidence, quality, and even spirit today. I would say it was not a great fighting spirit from Man United on top of that.”
On the other hand, Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva claimed it is one of the best wins for the club in the ongoing season.
“It is definitely one of the best wins,” added midfielder Bernardo Silva. “To win 3-0 away with this crowd, I think it is definitely one of the best performances.”
Meanwhile, Erling Haaland was also delighted after scoring a brace. The Norwegian scored his first goal at Old Trafford as he converted a penalty in the 26th minute and then doubled his team’s lead in the 49th minute.
“Amazing. A fantastic win and the game was incredible and the team, everything,” Haaland said.
Manchester United will next take on Newcastle United on Wednesday in the round of 16 in the EFL Cup.
